Early Autograph Letter from the Chazon Ish Containing Torah Novellae; Vilna, 1926

Handwritten letter of Torah novellae from Rabbi Avraham Yeshaya Karelitz, author of Chazon Ish, written while living in Vilna.

The Chazon Ish signs his full name: Avraham Yeshaya (He would commonly sign his name only with the initials “I”sh.”)

The letter regards the matter of hesech hada’as with the waters of parah aduma. The Chazon Ish writes at the end:
“…Rabbi Chaim Ozer, shlit”a wrote at length regarding this in his sefer…”

This letter was written on a personal postcard from his brother-in-law, Rabbi Shmuel Greineman. During his years in Vilna, the Chazon Ish used to study in his brother-in-law’s home in a specially designated room.

It seems that this letter was written in 1926.
