August 29, 1991
18 Elul, 5791
Personal check for the sum of $18 signed by the holy hand of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. The check was sent alongside an autographed letter of blessing to the author of a sefer.
Checks signed by the Lubavitcher Rebbe as late as 1991 are extraordinarily rare and in very high demand! Attached to the letter is a warm autographed letter of blessing that includes several handwritten amendments.
The check is dated August 29, 1991. The corresponding Hebrew date was 18 Elul which was the birthday of the Baal HaTanya. According to Chabad tradition, it was likewise the birthday of the Baal Shem Tov and is thus regarded as a special holiday among Lubavitcher Chassidim until this very day.
The Lubavitcher Rebbe greatly encouraged the authorship and printing of sifrei kodesh. He devoted substantial time to advising authors in their writings and would even subsidize the costs of printing to enable authors to publish and disseminate more sefarim.
The
Admor Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson (1902-1994) was the seventh Admor of the Chabad-Lubavitch dynasty and one of the foremost Chassidic leaders in the last generation. Until this day, the Torah empire he built extends to countries throughout the world. His emissaries actively engage in outreach and promote mitzvah observance, which the Rebbe maintained was a necessary step to hastening the final redemption and coming of Mashiach. According to many researchers, he is the most famous Jewish personality of the 21st century.
The Rebbe’s personal check printed with the name M. Schneerson. The check features his autograph and is dated August 20, 1991 (18 Elul, 5751).
