Slavita Siddur

Chassidic Nusach Sefard

Shapira Press. Slavita, 1827

Avodah U’Moreh Derech Siddur.
A siddur according to Sephardic-Chassidic custom, with explanations, intentions, and laws compiled by Rabbi Aharon son of Rabbi Yechiel Meir Halevi Segal from Michališok.

A very important Slavita siddur that was received with great enthusiasm in chassidic communities.

It was printed by Rabbi Shmuel Avraham of Slavita after his father, the Admor Rabbi Moshe Shapira, purchased the printing rights from the author. The text of the printing rights document is printed on the last page.

The approbations at the beginning of the siddur were given in the year of printing and are addressed to Rabbi Moshe Shapira.

The siddur includes: Prayers for weekdays and Shabbos, the Three Yomim Tovim, and Yamim Noraim, Pesach Haggadah, Hoshanot, Piyutim, various Selichos, and Shabbos songs.

For Pirkei Avos, a commentary by Rabbi Aharon of Michališok titled ‘Ikvei HaTzon’ was added, with selections from sefarim of great chassidic masters, including Toldos Yaakov Yosef, Noam Elimelech, Kedushas Levi, Meor Einayim, Or Hameir, Sidduro Shel Shabbos, and more.

The sefarim printed in Slavita and Zhitomir by the Shapira family were enthusiastically received by chassidic tzaddikim, rebbes and chassidim, and people yearned to pour out their prayers before the Creator from siddurim printed in holiness by the Shapira family press.

The holy Rebbe, author of ‘Shomer Emunim’ wrote: Every God-fearing person should strive to acquire old printed sefarim… especially from the Slavita and Zhitomir presses of the descendants of the holy Rabbi of Koritz, who were supremely holy printers. (Taharas Hakodesh Chapter 6)
