Illustrated Takanos of the Chevrah Kaddisha on Parchment. Germany, 1715
Ledger of policies for the Chevrah Kaddisha of one of the early 18th century German Jewish communities. The ledger contains 36 detailed sections regarding the appointment of new members, gabbaim and commitments.
Each page is surrounded by an ornate border, with the first page boasting an impressive circular border and an illustration of a bird. The manuscript’s body text is illustrated with assorted drawings of animals, birds, leaves and a vase of flowers.
Germany, 1715. Page Count: [4] leaves; 8 handwritten sides. Unusual, long and narrow format with length measuring 30 cm. and width measuring only 10 cm.
Condition: Good; first page has small hole and tear in border; stains; used.
