Silver Tray for Purim, Germany, Late 19th – Early 20th Century

This silver tray, presumably crafted to be used for mishloach manos, is marked with a crown and crescent, the number 800, and the artisan’s insignia.

The center features a high-quality engraving of a Star of David surrounded by artistic designs and the words "Gut Purim" prominently engraved in ornamental letters. Two fish are engraved, one on each side of the star, with the word "mazal" engraved on the right fish and "dagim" on the left. The letters S and M are intertwined and engraved above the Star of David on the rim of the tray and may indicate the identity of either the sender or recipient.

Silver Purim trays are extremely rare, if not altogether unique.
