Set of Silver Tefillin Boxes. Poland, Early 19th Century
Marked “12” with artisan’s insignia. This set of silver tefillin boxes features folk-style engraving typical of the period and region. The boxes feature a checkered pattern around the sides, and a triangular design on top, and are lined with velvet fabric inside.

One box is engraved on top with the initials ‘ש"י’ (shel yad – for the hand) along with an engraved crown, and the other is engraved with ‘ש"ר’ (shel rosh – for the head) with a matching crown engraved above.

A similar item can be seen in the Stieglitz Collection (p. 316, item #213).
Condition: Good.
Size: 9.5 cm long (inc. bottom part), 7 cm wide; compartments: 4.8×4.8 cm.
