Striking Silver Amulet. Italy, 18th Century
Centered in an oval container with a stylized medallion on each side, the name ש-ק-י is embossed on one side via repoussé or stamping. The verso features the acronym בס"ט (“B’siman tov” or “bsimana tava”) in the same method. One side of the amulet is finely-engraved with leaves around the edges, and surrounding the medallions are leaves and flowers crafted in exquisite Italian filigree work that together form a large leaf-like (or shield-shaped) design. The amulet is topped by a suspension ring, also in filigree style.
