8-Volume miniature Tanach. Paris, 1544
Beautiful printing of Torah, Nevi’im and Kesuvim in small, clear format with 17 title pages. This pocket-size Tanach was printed in Paris by the publishing house of famed Parisian printer Roberto Stefanos.
Shreiber (Estienne 82) offers a telling description of this Tanach: “This pocket-size Tanach has long been regarded as one of the exemplars of the Hebrew press from the period of the French Renaissance… This is a very unique edition and it is rare to find it complete and in good condition.”
The Stefanos family was a well-known family of printers who printed works in Paris and Geneva. The most famous among them was Roberto Stefanos who had the title of Royal Printer and whose works were renowned for their remarkable beauty and perfection.
