Magnificently-engraved large pewter seder plate. Custom made for a bride and a groom in 1773.

Description: Etched with beautiful letters into the rim of the seder plate are the symbols of the seder: Kadesh, Urchatz, etc., and the words, “In the year 5533 [1773]”. The last letter, kuf, also serves as the first letter kuf of the word “Kadesh”.

A decorative matzah cloth cover depicting the four sons mentioned in the Torah is engraved into the center of the plate. Above these drawings are the inscriptions: “She’eino yodeah lishol, ” “Tam, ” “Rasha” and “Chacham” and beneath them the verse, "The Torah speaks about four sons."

A cluster of grapes on each side of the matzah-cloth is surrounded by lovely etchings of birds and flowers, with hearts engraved on all four sides and a different inscription in each.

“Pesach” is engraved within the top heart, “marror” in the right, and “matzah” in the left; below the uppermost heart, the groom’s name “Tzadok” is engraved amidst embellishments above the words “B[en] K[evod] Chaim.” On the bottom, below the matzah-cloth, the bride’s name “Esther” is engraved along with the words “daughter of Alexander” with her father’s name set inside the bottom heart. The words “Made by Leib Segal” are etched onto the plate.
