Novellae and explanations on the entire Tractate Chulin, by Rabbi Eliezer Ashkenazi, Av Beis Din and Rosh Mesivta of Apta.

Damesek Eliezer is known for its extreme rarity. Already two-hundred years ago, the Chida remarked that it was a ”utmost rare sefer, ” and Rabbi Chaim Nassan Dembitzer later noted in his sefer Klilas Yofi, that “Damesek Eliezer on Tractate Chulin is very rare and is now one in a city and two in a country.”
The most likely cause for the sefer’s rarity is that it was printed in Poland 2 years before the Khmelnytsky massacres in 1648-1649 also known as Gezeiros Tach -v’Tat during which many Jewish Sefarim were desecrated and burned.

This singular edition was published in Lublin, 1646.

Rabbi Eliezer Ashkenazi was a disciple of Rabbi Meshulam Feivush, Av Beis Din of Krakow and studied in his yeshiva along with the Bach. At the time of publishing his treatise, he was already from the elder leaders of his generation. Nonetheless, in his humility he collected endorsements from the other leaders of his time such as Rabbi Heshil of Krakow, the Tosfos Yom Tov, the Maginei Shlomo, Rabbi Shabsi Sheftil – son of the Shelah, and others.
