Dozens of Drawings!
Mashal HaKadmoni a mussar sefer from the times of the Rishonim composed of traditional parables
written in rhymes accompanied by poems and illustrations by the sage Rabbi Yitzchak Ibn Sahula.

Sefer Mashal HaKadmoni is the first Hebrew book in which drawings were printed, it was printed twice during the incunabula period in Italy (see Stefansky, Inconbula pp. 385-386) this publication is the first print after the incunabula period.
The author himself incorporated drawings to his sefer as he writes in his introduction: ‘And I saw it right, to draw illustrations to aid the understanding and comprehension…’.
There are dozens of illustrations from scenes of life experiences as well as many dozens of human figures, animals and birds.
All the illustrations in this edition are completely original and not copied from previous editions.

Rabbi Yitzchak Ibn Sahula, philosopher and scholar, lived and worked in Castile in Spain, was born in 1244 and wrote the present book in 1281.
In his preface, the author clarifies that his sources are all from Torah sources either from the words of the prophets or from the Chachomim of the previous generations and that he did not quote parables from any other sources.
The Sefer Mashal HaKadmoni was very popular and widely distributed in previous generations.
