Gevuras Anashim
by the Shach
First Edition. Dessau, 1697

Comprehensive commentary on Tur and Shulchan Aruch Even Haezer Ch. 154 complete with halachic principles by Rabbi Shabsai Katz, author of the Shach.
The second half of this sefer encompasses shailos and teshuvos by the Shach’s father Rabbi Meir Hakohein Ashkenazi, who was a talmid of the Sma and Maharam of Lublin. This section also includes discussion and correspondence with the authors of Chelkas Mechokek and Meginei Shlomo.
Rabbi Shabsai Katz, the Shach (1622-1662) numbered among the greatest of the Achronim, and his halachic rulings were universally accepted throughout the Diaspora. He is most famous for his Sifsei Kohein supercommentary on Shulchan Aruch Yoreh Deah and Choshen Mishpat which graces every Shulchan Aruch today.

The Shach’s comment in Choshen Mishpat (Ch. 122:34) alludes to an additional commentary on Shulchan Aruch Even Haezer that remains unknown. The present sefer, Gevuras Anashhim, is the Shach’s only known written work on Even Haezer.

This sefer was printed by the Shach’s grandson Rabbi Yitzchak ben Rabbi Moshe Katz.
