Shailos and teshuvos on Even Haezer by Rabbi Yosef Karo, author of Shulchan Aruch and Beis Yosef.
Like all of the Beis Yosef’s works, Shu”t Rabbi Yosef Karo numbers among the foundational works in the Jewish library. All later halachic authorities drew from his infinite wells of wisdom and referenced his teshuvos on Kiddushin, Gittin, Ksubos, agunos and others.
Already during his lifetime, Rabbi Yosef Karo (1488-1575) gained acclaim as a supreme halachic authority, and he responded to weighty questions sent from countries around the world to his residence in Tzfas. The present sefer offers interesting insights to life in 16th century Tzfas as well as the complex halachic shailos that arose during this period following the Spanish expulsion.
The present sefer was brought to print by the Beis Yosef’s son, Rabbi Yehuda Karo. In his foreword to the sefer, Rabbi Yehuda Karo recounts that his father’s will included instructions to his children to edit and print his teshuvos.
Included in this sefer is one particularly long and fascinating teshuvah authored by Rabbi Moshe Cordovero, the Ramak (Dinei Kesubah Ch. 3).
