___
Maseches Moed Katan with the commentaries of Rashi and Tosafos. An entire volume from the first set of Talmud printed by Daniel Bomberg in his famous Venetian printing press.
The halachic rulings of Tosafos and the Rosh were printed for the first time in the back of this masechta. This was the first time that the Rambam’s Peirush Hamishnayos was included in the Shas.
Beautiful high quality printing in dark ink on thick paper.
This magnificent printing of this edition of Talmud Bavli is almost entirely free of censor-deletions. It also includes important additions printed here for the first time and it became the basis for every subsequent printing of the Talmud.
Shas Bomberg
Throughout the history of printing Jewish books, Bomberg Shas prints have been praised like no other print until present time.
The great 16th century printer, Daniel Bomberg was an innovator in the printing of many Jewish works, yet by far, his most impressive accomplishment was the printing of the Shas.
The Bomberg Edition was the first printing of the entire Talmud Bavli.
This magnificent printing of the Talmud Bavli is almost entirely free of censor-deletions. It also includes important additions printed here for the first time, based on handwritten manuscripts. Understandably, it became the basis for every subsequent printing of the Talmud.
The margins of page 45b feature a registro, [Italian for index, listing the opening words of each kuntress, to ensure the correct order for the book-binders] the registro appears in only some of the masechtos.
Venice, 1521. Daniel Bomberg Press. 45 leaves. Pages size: 34.7 cm. Wide bottom margins, minor holes, stains on title page, minor restoration of upper left corner of title page.

Daniel
Bomberg
(1475-1549)
Daniel Bomberg, the famous printer from Venice, was the most influential Hebrew printer in the 16th century. He developed new typefaces and invested huge sums in establishing the printing house, and indeed from his printing house came out the best Torah works that became ‘prototypes’ for all subsequent editions.
He established the gemara’s “Tzuras Hadaf” as well as the number of pages in each masechta. Since then, passages in the gemara are always cited using Bomberg’s page numbering.
He is the first to publish many important and basic Torah books, such as the present edition of Talmud Yerushalmi (see next lot) based on ancient and accurate manuscripts.
Rabbi Refael Nosson Nutta Rabinowitz, an expert on the printings of Talmud, wrote in reference to this project, “This Talmud is perfect in its magnificence and beauty, both in regard to its structure and aesthetics. The paper is beautiful and the letters are bright and black…” (Ma’amar Al Hadpasas Hatalmud p. 41)
Stefansky Sifrei Yesod p. 18, and in the addendum p. 168.
