Nusach Sephard (chassidic). This was the first Ashkenazic siddur to feature the correct kavana – meaning (הוי”ה and אדנות) integrated at every mention of Hashem’s name.
This siddur was printed based on siddurim formerly printed in Slavita by Rabbi Moshe Shapira of Slavita. The editor inscribed in his preface to the siddur: “The text of this siddur was copied from a siddur printed by the Slavita Rav Rabbi Moshe Shapira zt”l, son of the Admor Rabbi Pinchas of Koritz zt”l.”
The title page notes that the siddur was printed by the famous Jerusalem tzaddik Rabbi Baruch Yitzchak Freund, renowned for his fervent and heartfelt prayers, was titled as one of the great “mechavnim” in Jerusalem.
Rabbi Friend’s grandson, who assisted in the printing of the siddur, relates that his grandfather instructed him to relay the siddur only to a printer who immersed daily in a mikveh. “And, indeed, I paid the printer a special fee so he would go to the mikveh daily, and since then, the printer has become a ‘mikveh Yid’” (Sippurim yerushalayim Vol. 5 p. 88).
This siddur includes the famous melodies “Ka Echsof” by the Admor Rabbi Aharon of Karlin and “Gott fun Avraham” by Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev.
