Handwritten Chiddushei Torah
by Rabbi Shlomo Heiman,
Rosh Mesivta of Torah Vodaath.

New York, Circa 1940

Chiddushim on maseches Chulin and segments of chiddushim on masechtos Yevamos and Chulin by the holy hand of Rabbi Shlomo Heiman, Rosh Yeshivah of  Mesivta Torah Vodaath and one of the progenitors of the Torah world in the United States.
Rabbi Shlomo Heiman (1892–1945), beloved Rosh Yeshivah of Mesivta Torah Vodaath in New York, was one of the acclaimed 20th century Torah scholars who taught and disseminated Torah in Lithuania and the United States. As the prime disciple of Rabbi Boruch Ber Leibowitz, he perpetuated his distinct methods of Torah study. Rabbi Boruch Ber once inscribed that it was worth coming to the world just in order to teach a student like Rabbi Shlomo (printed in Yeshurun Issue 8, p. 177).
After World War I, Rabbi Shlomo Heiman began teaching in Yeshivas Ohel Torah of Baranowitz, under the auspices of Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman, and in 1927, at the request of Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski of Vilna, accepted the post of Rosh Yeshiva of the Ramailles Yeshivah, a position he held until 1935 when he was invited to New York by Rabbi Shraga Feivel Mendlowitz to lead Mesivta Torah Vodaath. After soliciting Rabbi Chaim Ozer’s approval, Rabbi Heiman accepted this position and was thus spared the horrors of the Holocaust. During his tenure at Torah Vodaath, the yeshivah underwent a marvelous period of growth. His written legacy includes Chiddushei Rabbi Shlomo and Shiurei Rabbi Shlomo.
The present item includes three large folios on the topic of treifos, these chiddushim were printed with minor amendments in Chiddushei Rabbi Shlomo p. 81 however the present folios include an additional 5 lines not printed there, 2 of the leaves on Mesivta Torah Voda’ah stationery.

New York, Circa 1940. 5 leaves. Good condition.
