Koritz, 1810

Chassidic commentaries on Chumash by Rabbi Moshe Chaim Ephraim of Sudilkov, grandson of the Baal Shem Tov.
The author of “Degel”, as he is affectionately referred to by Chassidim, was born in Mezhibuzh in 1747, to the Baal Shem Tov’s only daughter Udel. He was educated and dearly loved by his grandfather who was involved in raising and educating him. In his famous letter to his brother-in-law Rabbi Gershon of Kitov, the Baal Shem Tov refers to him as “A great genius in the essence of learning.”
Degel Machaneh Ephraim is a foundational work of chassidus which cites important concepts, learned from his grandfather the Baal Shem Tov.
There is a list of the author’s dreams printed on leaf 114a. This list was discovered in the author’s handwriting and among the dreams it lists those in which he glimpsed the Baal Shem Tov and his disciples.
Includes approbations of Chassidic luminaries such as Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev, the Maggid of Kozhnitz, the Chozeh of Lublin, the Ohev Yisrael of Apta, Rabbi Chaim of Czernowitz and Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Liska.
