Double-sided handwritten and autographed letter replete with chiddushei Torah in both Halachah and Aggadah by the Netziv of Volozhin to his beloved son Rabbi Chaim Berlin.

 One of the topics that the author discourses upon at length is the custom of learning Torah in the house of an Avel.

Renowned as the Netziv, Rabbi Naftali Tzvi Yehuda Berlin (1816-1893), was Av Beis Din and Rosh Yeshivah in Volozhin, and authored famous works as Ha’Emek Davar, Ha’Emek Sheilah and Meishiv Davar. He joined the Volozhin Yeshivah at the age of eleven, and when he became bar mitzvah, Rabbi Itzele of Volozhin, son of Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin, took him as a son-in-law. For twenty-five years, he toiled in Torah with unparalleled diligence in the Volozhin Yeshivah before accepting the position of Rosh Yeshivah which he filled for close to fifty years.
