Handwritten Essay by Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch

A handwritten essay in German with several quotes in lashon hakodesh by the venerable German Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch. In this essay, Rabbi Hirsch relates that an encounter with a modern young Jew on a train opened his eyes to the gross intolerance and loathing that the Maskilim felt toward their Orthodox counterparts and expounds upon this subject.

Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch (1808-1889) was the “guardian of  Khal Adath Jeshurun in Frankfurt.” He fought against the Reform and endeavored mightily to safeguard the nation from the clutches of the Enlightenment and assimilation. Rabbi Hirsch was a prolific author, who wrote extensively upon Torah philosophy, giving direction and clarity for the perplexed youth and left an everlasting impact for future generations.

[2] large leaves (3 sides) 33 cm. completely handwritten by Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch and preserved in an ornate leather binding.
