Tefillos HaMoadim – Tortoise shell binding!
Amsterdam, 1726

Spectacular museum piece!
Order of prayers for Shalosh Regalim, Succos-Simchas Torah, Pesach and Shavuot, in Sephardic rite. The sefer also includes a Passover Haggadah with instructions in Spanish and Hebrew.
This piece is in pristine condition, printed with dark ink on high-quality, thick paper and features shiny gilded edges. It is bound in an expensive processed tortoise shell and boasts elaborate gold-plated silver clasps. The spine likewise features two gold-plated silver plates to preserve the hard cover and protect it from breakage.
Tortoise shell bindings are the rarest bindings to be used, and of those many have cracks and damages due to the rigid material. Thus, any complete item in its original turtle shell binding in good condition is regarded as a treasured collector’s item.
Amsterdam, 1726. 175 leaves. Page size: 15.5 cm. Several pages are cropped at the margins until the text. Preserved in a new matching case and lined with cloth-paper for preservation.
Provenance: Bill Gross Collection
