Chassidus, Handwritten folio by
the Rasha”b
Handwritten leaf replete with Chassidic divrei Torah written by the holy hand of the Admor Rabbi Shalom DovBer Schneerson of Lubavitch, the Rasha”b.
The four paragraphs on this leaf, written entirely by the Rasha”b’s holy hand, were written as supplements to previous essays he authored on Chassidus. Beside each paragraph, the Rasha”b notes the essay and location where each paragraph is meant to be inserted. Interestingly, none of the known mentioned essays contain these supplementary texts.
Among these additions, the Rasha”b recounts the parable that he repeated on several occasions in his discourses regarding two men—one who stands upon a mountaintop and the other in the valley, which he often used to illuminate the lofty concepts of hisorrerusa d’leilah and hisorerrusa d’lesata.
The Admor Rasha”b (1861-1920) was the fifth Rebbe in the dynasty of Chabad-Lubavitch. He was the son of the Maharash, son of the Tzemach Tzedek, son of the Mitteler Rebbe, son of Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, the Baal Hatanya. The Rasha”b founded Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim and Toras Emes and advocated tirelessly on behalf of Russian Jewry who suffered terribly during this era from frequent persecutions and pogroms. He likewise authored hundreds of Chassidic essays which were compiled into his monumental 29-volume series. He was succeeded by his son, the Rayatz.
