Kuntress of handwritten teshuvos by Rabbi Aharon Moshe Toibesh, Av Beis Din of Iasi and its vicinities, and author of Karnei Re’em on the Maharshah. This pamphlet contains five teshuvos, three of which were written and signed entirely by Rabbi Aharon Moshe’s hand. The contents of this kuntress were later printed in Shu”t Toafos Re’em (Zolkova, 1855).
Rabbi Aharon Moshe Toibesh, author of Shu”t To’afos Re’em and Karnei Re’em on the Maharshah, was born in Lvov, Galicia. He served as rabbi of Śniatyn, Galicia and subsequently as Av Beis Din of Iași, Romania until his passing. Regarded as one of the greatest Romanian rabbis, he battled against assimilation and missionaries and was venerated in Chassidic circles as well. His granddaughter, the daughter of Rabbi Shmuel Shmelka Toibesh, author of Chayei Olam, married the Admor Rabbi Mottele of Nadvorna.
The present teshuvos were dispatched to the following Rabbanim; Rabbi Nosson Notta, Av Beis Din of Pidhaitsi and one of the great disciples of Rabbi Meshulam Agra (Karnei Re’em Choshen Mishpat Ch. 17); Rabbi Yosef Yoel Deitsch, Av Beis Din of Tarnopol and author of Yad Yosef (ibid Yoreh Deah Ch. 24); Rabbi Shimshon Chamdish, Av Beis Din of Zlozitz (ibid Even Haezer Ch. 61), with blessings and congratulations upon his rabbinical appointment; Rabbi Shmuel Balchaver (ibid Yoreh Deah Ch. 49); and Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Shlesinger (ibid Orach Chaim Ch. 2).
