Original handwritten and autographed ‘Moreinu Certificate’ delivered by the Shevet Sofer, Rabbi Simcha Bunim Sofer, to his beloved pupil Rabbi Akiva Blau of Krasnow.
Rabbi Simcha Bunim Sofer, the Shevet Sofer (1843-1907) succeeded his holy ancestors the Chasam Sofer and Ksav Sofer as Rav and Rosh Yeshiva of Pressburg, where he cultivated thousands of talmidim and gedolei Torah who spread their brilliance and ardor for Torah and holiness throughout the borders of Hungary.
The Shevet Sofer’s spiritual leadership extended throughout Europe, and like his venerable father and grandfather, he was a prolific author whose written legacy includes volumes of chiddushei Torah, some of which were printed as Shu”t Shevet Sofer, Chiddushei Shevet Sofer al HaShas, and Shaarei Simchah al HaTorah.
Rabbi Akiva Blau was a disciple of the Shevet Sofer, a prominent Torah scholar who was blessed with both wisdom and wealth.He corresponded frequently with Gedolei Yisrael, and his legacy includes numerous questions and answers sent to his contemporary sages. Rabbi Akiva’s father, Rabbi Baruch Blau of Krasnow, married in his 2nd marriage the daughter of Rabbi Yaakov Leib Katz, son-in-law of the Ksav Sofer.
