The Admor Reb Yoel of Satmar.

Blessings & Chizuk for the New Year Jerusalem 1953

The Admor Rabbi Yoel of Satmar’s Autographed Letter of Blessing for the New Year & Chizuk to Congregation Eidah Hacharedis in Jerusalem

A heartwarming autographed letter of blessing for the New Year written in rhyme by the Admor Rabbi Yoel of Satmar to his congregation, the Eidah Hacharedis in Jerusalem. The letter is replete with chizuk, encouraging his congregation to maintain their separatist values from Zionism, stand firmly against any wind of change and safeguard the fortress of Torah and Judaism in the Holy City of Jerusalem.

In 1953, the Admor Rabbi Yoel of Samtar was appointed Nasi of the Eidah Hacharedis in Jerusalem. From then, he would send an annual letter of blessing and chizuk to the community prior to the New Year.

The present letter is the first letter sent by Rabbi Yoelish to his congregation in Jerusalem, and it was written on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, 5714 (September 1953).

This letter, dated
“The third day of Selichos, 5713” was written in rhyme, which is exceedingly rare for letters written by the Admor.

The Admor opens with heartfelt blessings for peace to
“the Eidah Hacharedis, fortress of Judaism in Jerusalem” and emphasizes the importance of remaining faithful to values of purity. He further extends his blessings for a
“ksivah vachasimah tovah in the Book of Complete Tzaddikim, ” and a
“Good, happy year with success without pain or grief” and blesses his congregation that they should
“merit expanding the borders of holiness”.

He concludes with blessings for
“A year of peace, a year of redemption and salvation with the revelation of Hashem’s Honor upon us” and signs it simply with
“Hakatan Yoel Teitelbaum.”

Brooklyn, 1953. Autographed letter on official stationery. Hole-punched in margin. Folds with one letter manually corrected, possibly by the Admor’s sacred hand.
