Novellae and elucidations on Shulchan Aruch Yoreh Deah by Rav Yehonasan Eibeschutz with approximately 10 marginalia of Harav Leib Fischels, Rosh Yeshivah of the illustrious Prague Yeshivah.

His sons autograph appears on the title page verso: “…Belongs to my master teacher and father… Leib ben Harav…Muharam zt”l…”

Harav Leib Fischels of Prague (d. 1808) was the son of Harav Meir Fischels-Bumsla, one of the esteemed disciples of Harav Yehonasan Eibeschutz and a great Torah sage.

Harav Leib Fischels was appointed Rosh Yeshivah in Prague in 1769 and held this position for 40 years. He discoursed in Torah with the Noda B’Yehuda and other Torah luminaries. His foremost disciple was Harav Betzalel Ranshburg who quoted Reb Leib Fischels teachings extensively in his writings. Harav Leib’s novellae were published in various Torah publications, and some of his novellae on Tractate Beitzah were published under the name Chiddushei Maharal Fischels at the end of Harav Betzelel Ranshburg’s sefer Yoma Tava L’Rabanan.

The title page also features the (cropped) autograph of his friend Harav Eliezer Fleckeles, Av Beis Din of Prague and author of Teshuva Me’ahavah. Harav Eliezer Fleckeles was a student of Harav Leib’s father, Harav Meir Fischels, whom he praises effusively at the end of Teshuvah Me’ahavah.
