Halacha Classic!!!

Shach Choshen Mishpat. First Edition. Amsterdam, 1663

Sifsei Cohen (Shach) by Harav Shabsai Katz is a commentary on Shulchan Aruch replete with novellae and rulings in practical halachah. The Shach was accepted in Klal Yisrael as the Posek on Choshen Mishpat

Detailed in the introduction: Prior to his passing in 1662, the Shach instructed his son-in-law to publish his magnum opus, Sifsei Cohen. Due to financial woes the publishing was delayed, until the Shach appeared to him in a dream and asked him why he had failed to uphold his last will and testament…

The title page also features approbations by Polish Rabbanim who assembled in Germany in 1654. Foremost among them were the Shach’s rebbi Harav Heschel of Cracow and Harav Yonah Thumuim, author of Kikayon D’Yonah. Other endorsements were from Harav Sheftel ben HaShl”a, author of Vavei Amudim; the author of Avodas Hagershoni; and Harav Aharon Shmuel Kodinover, author of Birkas Hazevach.

Amsterdam, 1663. First edition. 2, 337 leaves. Page size: 30.5 cm. Leaf 2b features a poem by the author shaped into a star. Owners’ signatures on title page; leaf 145a has handwritten annotation. Water marks. Good condition. Attractive new half-leather binding.
