Halachic Responsum by Rabbi Mordechai Leib Winkler, Av Beis Din of Mad & Author of Levushei Mordechai, regarding Halachic ruling of the Bnei Yissaschar

A lengthy, 3-sided handwritten and autographed letter by the venerable Harav Mordechai Winkler, Av Beis Din of Mád. In this letter, he responds to a question regarding a ruling of the Bnei Yissaschar which permits eating meat leftover from a Shabbos seudah between Rosh Chodesh Av and Tisha B’Av when meat products are generally prohibited to eat. The rationale of the argument is that if the meat was permitted on Shabbos, then it should also be permissible after Shabbos.

The Levushei Mordechai Harav Mordechai Halevi Winkler (1845-1932) was a pillar of Torah and halachah throughout Hungary and regarded as the undisputed posek hador during the last two decades of his life. He studied under the tutelage of three disciples of the Chasam Sofer and followed his paradigm in every way. Harav Mordechai Winkler stood at the helm of the Yeshivah Gedolah in Mád where he cultivated many gedolei Torah and halachic masters; his brilliant responsa were compiled into the 4-volume series Levushei Mordechai. He was the father-in-law of Maharit”z Dushinsky.

Mád, 1923. 3 handwritten sides. Page size: 23×14 cm. Good condition. Printed in Shu”t Levushei Mordechai, 3rd edition. Orach Chaim Ch. 49.
