Handwritten Letter of Recommendation by Rabbi Aharon Moshe Taubesh, Ab"d Yas, author of Karnei Re’em
A letter of recommendation to the community of Lvov regarding the hiring of a chazzan. The chazzan served for many years in Batshan and then in Zolotchov. Handwritten and autographed by Rabbi Aharon Moshe Taubes, Av Beis Din of Yas and author of Karnei Re’em.
The letter was dispatched to the influential Rabbi Meir Leibish Yutis of Lvov, father of Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchak Yutis of Lvov and author of Shu”t Shearis Yaakov among other works.
Rabbi Moshe Aharon Taubes, author of Shu"t To’afos Re’aim and Karnei Re’em on the Maharshah, was born in Lvov, Galicia. He served as rabbi of Śniatyn, Galicia and later as Av Beis Din of Iași, Romania until his death. Regarded as one of the greatest rabbis of Romania, he was an ardent fighter against assimilation and well-known in Chassidic circles as well. His granddaughter, the daughter of Rabbi Shmuel Shmelka Taubesh, author of Chayei Olam, married the Admor Rabbi Mottele of Nadvorna.
The letter is undated, but was sent during the time he served as rabbi of Sniatyn, Galicia between 1820-1842. [1] leaf. Page size: 21×19 cm.
