Tiferes Shmuel by Rabbi Shmuel Kaidenover. First Edition. Frankfurt, 1697

Novellae and glosses on Shas, the Rosh, Maharshah and Arba Turim by the holy Rabbi Aharon Shmuel Kaidenover, Av Beis Din of Cracow.

This is one of the fundamental works on the Rosh and was printed in Gilyon HaRosh in the Vilna Shas. It was edited and prepared for print by his son Harav Tzvi Hirsch Kaidenover, author of Kav Hayashar.

The holy Rabbi Aharon Shmuel Kaidenover (1614-1676) was one of the leading Achronim and father of the author of Kav Hayashar. He wrote several fundamental sifrei kodesh, among them Birkas Hazevach on Seder Kodshim; Tiferes Shmuel on the Rosh; and Shu”t Emunas Shmuel. He served as the Rav of some of the most illustrious Jewish communities in Europe, among them Głogów, Reisha, Brisk, Fürth and Cracow.

During the Chmielnicki massacres of 1648, he fled to Vilna where he was appointed a dayan in the Beis Din of the Chelkas Mechokek together with the Shach. The Yaabetz writes that he knew Tur and Beis Yosef entirely by heart. “And aside from his wisdom in Shas and Poskim, and his great breadth as evident from his works, he was also knowledgeable in kabbalah, and the gilgulim of souls was revealed to him” (Shem Hagedolim by the Chid”a).

Frankfurt am Main , 1697. First edition. [2], 5-126 leaves. Page size: 18 cm. Good condition. Attractive new half-leather binding.
