The commentary of the Tosfos Yom Tov on the Rosh is one of the essential seforim used to understand the teachings of the Rosh.
The printing of Ma’adanei Melech played an important role in the life story of the Tosfos Yom Tov. When King Ferdinand II received the slanderous report that the Tosfos Yom Tov’s sefer contained a diatribe against Christianity, the Tosfos Yom Tov was interrogated and sentenced to death. After much effort, his sentence was reduced to a massive financial penalty.
As a result this sefer went through heavy censoring which is apparent in this copy in which terms such as ‘Talmud, ’ ‘avodah zarah’ and ‘Nochri’ etc. were erased.
Prague, 1628. First edition. [2], 2-7, 7-320 leaves. Page size: 33 cm. Good condition aside from professional restoration of the title page. Antique leather binding. It is rare to find a complete copy in such condition.
