Meleches Machsheves. First Edition. Venice, 1710

Pristine copy with author’s portrait!

Commentary and pearls of wisdom on the weekly Torah portions by Rabbi Moshe Chefetz. A pristine copy with the illustrated title page, portrait of the author, and assorted charts.

The sefer opens with an impressive full-page portrait of the author and side caption alluding to his age.
“In the year 1710, he was מא"ה years of age.” While the Hebrew letters of the word read meah (100), it actually hints to its numerical value of 46.

The author Rabbi Moshe Chefetz was born in Trieste and raised in Venice where he taught Torah to the masses. He was well-versed in secular wisdoms, science and philosophy, as evident from his magnum opus Meleches Machsheves. The author wrote the sefer seeking comfort and solace following the tragic passing of his beloved son Rabbi Gershon, author of Yad Charuzim, in his prime years. Unfortunately, the father Rabbi Moshe Chefetz also passed away relatively young, at the age of 48, on 30 Cheshvan, 5572 (1712).

Venice, 1710. First edition. [10], portrait page, 98 leaves. Page size: 33 cm. Includes illustrated title page, portrait, charts. Many of the above are missing from other copies of this work, Beautiful copy on high-quality paper with wide margins. Antique leather binding.
