Rescued from the Fire!
On the eve of 11 Av, 1841, a terrible fire broke out in Izmir. The inferno raged for hours, decimating homes and shuls and leaving many without a roof over their heads.
On that same night, personal tragedy struck Rav Chaim Palagi, when 54 handwritten manuscripts were lost in the fire. One courageous disciple dared to venture into the fiery cellar and saved one box.
This work, was the first work published from the surviving manuscripts after the great fire in Izmir and the motive for its title Chaim L’Rosh.
In his preface to this sefer, Rabbi Chaim describes the great fire that struck Izmir as well as the names of the works that were tragically lost in the blaze.
