Affidavit by Rabbi Feisch Moskovits to U.S. Authorities to Sponsor the Satmar Rebbe. 1945
Declaration to the United States government in which the chassid and philanthropist Rabbi Feisch Moskovits pledges to sponsor and support the Admor Rabbi Yoel of Satmar and his wife upon their arrival in the United States.
Following his miraculous escape from the Nazi inferno, the Divrei Yoel arrived in Switzerland where he debated between traveling to Eretz Yisrael or continuing to the United States. Upon receiving the exhilarating news that the Rebbe had arrived safely in Switzerland, a group of chassidim and followers in the United States formed a society called ‘Machzikei Beis Harav (Supporters of the Rebbe’s Family)’ led by the affluent Rabbi Feisch Moskovits.
In order to facilitate the Rebbe’s immigration, his followers were required to issue a pledge to the United States government to support the Rebbe and Rebbetzin upon their arrival in the United States. This commitment guaranteed that the new arrivals would not become a burden upon society.
In this rare historic document dated 1945, Rabbi Feisch Moskovits affirms in the presence of legal notaries that he pledges to sponsor and support the Admor and his wife.
The document includes as well details of the Divrei Yoel and his Rebbetzin’s birthdates and other personal details.
The celebrated philanthropist Rabbi Feisch Moskovits numbered among the Divrei Yoel’s prominent chassidim, and he generously abetted and supported the Rebbe in founding his vast network of Torah and chessed institutions in America.
This document also includes Rabbi Feisch Moskovits personal details and declaration of assets.
