Handwritten letter by Rabbi Elazar Menachem Man Shach regarding Shiurim for Women . Bnei Brak, 1978
Handwritten letter by the Rosh Yeshiva Ponovezh Harav Elazar Menachem Man Shach responding to a question whether Torah classes should be held for women on topics of mussar and yiras Shamayim.
Harav Shach replied that if the classes are for women that did not learn in Beis Yaakov then, “certainly it would be worthwhile for them to receive guidance in those concepts that are relevant to yiras Shamayim and hashkafah…However since most wives of men learning in kollel are Bais Yaakov alumnae and have the fundamental basics, one should not add to the obligation of reflecting upon mussar for them, since this may be included in the prohibition of one teaching his daughter the Oral Torah. However the letter ends ‘Obviously, it all depends on the lecturer of the shiur.”
