The Steipler, Harav Yaakov Yisrael Kanievsky, (1899-1985), author of the Kehillos Yaakov, was one of the greatest Torah luminaries and spiritual leaders of the past generation. He approached the writing of his chiddushim with deep reverence, immersing in a mikveh each time before proceeding to write (Orchos Rabbeinu, Vol 5: 235) and designating a special pen for the task (ibid, Vol 1: 348). He likewise invested great effort into clarifying his divrei Torah and ensuring that each word and line was completely accurate. His intensive efforts are manifest in this manuscript in which one can easily see tangible proof of his numerous drafts, erasures and the numerous amendments that he inserted while drafting and preparing his work for print.
