Handwritten letter of recommendation by the Rosh Yeshivah of Radin Harav Naftali Trop on behalf of a student.
Harav Naftali Tropp (1871-1930) was one of the great Lithuanian Roshei Yeshivah whose teachings based on analytical method of study has become a fundament of the Yeshiva world. His novellae, published in Chiddushei HaGranat, are staples of every yeshivah library. Harav Naftali Tropp was a disciple of both Harav Eliezer Gordon of Telshe and Harav Itzeleh of Ponovezh, and he absorbed mussar and ethics from the Alters of Kelm, Novardok and Slabodka.
In 1904, he was called by the Chafetz Chaim to Radin to assume the position of Rosh Yeshivah in his Yeshivah. Numbering among Harav Naftali’s disciples in Radin were revered gedolei Torah as Harav Shlomo Heiman, Harav Eliyahu Dushnitzer and the Ponoviczer Rav, Harav Yosef Shlomo Kahaneman .
Harav Naftali Tropp writings are extremely scarce and there are hardly any other known letters written by him. Compilers of the Machon Oraysa Edition of Chidushei HaGranat wrote that they were unable to find a single handwritten letter of his other than a partial paragraph of one letter (Chiddushei HaGranat pg. 61)
The letter is a warm recommendation on behalf of a bachur who spent two years learning in Radin and wished to continue learning in Eretz Yisrael.
