Rav Itzele Ponoviczer was among the leading Torah sages in the golden age of Lithuanian yeshivos. He was a contemporary of the Chafetz Chaim and Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski, studied by the Beis Halevi of Brisk, and spent two years learning as a chavrusah with Harav Chaim Soloveitchik. In 1889, he was summoned by the Alter of Slabodka to stand at the helm of the Slabodka Yeshivah, and it was Rav Itzele who cultivated its growth and expansion and escorted it to its pinnacle days.
Rav Itzele’s brilliant shiurim and chiddushei Torah awed all who heard them, and over many years, he taught hundreds of talmidim who would ultimately spread the teachings of Slabokda throughout the world. In 1894, he succeeded the Aderes as Av Beis of Ponovicz, where he founded a small chaburah for outstanding talmidim.
Rav Itzele Ponoviczer very rarely recorded his many teshuvos and chiddushim, and among the thousands that he delivered, only several remain and were printed in Shu”t Zecher Yitzchak and Chiddushei Hagri”ir.
4 leaves; 8 sides. 21×13 cm. Drafts of teshuvos throughout the manuscript. Ink stains; marginal tear with no missing text.
