Handwritten Hagaos by Rabbi Moshe Eichenstein of Ziditchov in Sefer Mizrachi on Rashi

Sefer Mizrachi on Rashi by the Re’em, Rabbi Eliyahu Mizrachi, with dozens of annotations in the handwriting of the Admor Harav Moshe Eichenstein, Av Beis Din of Ziditchov, with the autograph of his father-in-law Harav Eliyahu Eichenstein ben Harav Yitzchak Eizik of Ziditchov.

The
Admor Harav Moishele of Ziditchov Hy”d (circa 1874-1944), son of Yissachar Berish of Veretzky, author of the Malbush, succeeded his father as Admor of Ziditchov and moved his yeshivah to Munkacs at the end of his life. Rav Moshe was renowned for his exceptional piety and emotional prayer. Countless Jews flocked to him for blessing and counsel, yet he was perhaps most famous as a masmid who learned Torah without interruption and was known to quote paragraphs of Gemara in his sleep. The Minchas Yitzchak, who was Rav Moshe’s son’s chavrusah, attested that the words emanating from his lips radiated light. His knowledge of all realms of Torah was astounding, and his written legacy was published under the title Zichron Moshe on Rashi and the Ohr Hachaim Hakadosh.

An autograph of his father-in-law, Harav Eliyahu Eichenstein of Ziditchov, appears on the title page. An additional autograph appears on Leaf 1 where he used the Aleph of the page number to write out his name.

Harav Eliyahu Eichenstein of Ziditchov (1836-1878), author of Zichron Eliyahu and son of the Mahar”i of Ziditchov, was great in his knowledge of both the hidden and revealed aspects of Torah. After his father’s passing, he established his Beis Medrash in the same place where his illustrious uncle Harav Tzvi Hirsh of Ziditchov had davened. His nephew Rav Moshe married his daughter after Rav Eliyahu came to his brother Rav Yissachar Berish in a dream and asked him to wed her to his son (Encyclopedia of Chachmei Galicia, vol 1, page 178).

Mizrachi. Furth, 1762. Harav Eliyahu Eichenstein of Ziditchov’s autograph appears in multiple places. Intact copy. Tear in the margin of the title page with old restoration. Some pages have holes. Generally good condition. New leather binding.
