Handwritten letter of endorsement signed by the holy Admor Rabbi Yaakov Dovid of Amshinov son of the Admor Rabbi Yitzchak of Vorky, on behalf of a man “Who has become impoverished, and according to his stature, [helping him] is tantamount to saving lives.”
This letter was dispatched to the Rebbe’s dear friend Harav Eliyahu Yosef, Av Beis Din of Radzinaway, a prominent Vorka and Alexander chassid. In the letter, he entreats that “Perhaps your honor will speak in Vorky about this, to seek solutions and fulfill the [verse], “And you shall support…”
The Admor Harav Yaakov Dovid of Amshinov (1814-1878) was the son of the Admor Harav Yitzchak of Vorky (see the next lot #128) and progenitor of the Amshinov dynasty. As one of the prominent Admorim and spiritual leaders of Polish Jewry in his era, he endeavored tirelessly on behalf of his fellow Jews and lobbied to annul cruel decrees against them. One of his famous achievements was annulling the law compelling Jews to shear their Peyos and beards. Rabbi Yaakov Dovid was an undisputed genius who was revered by the Chiddushei Harim and Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Kotzk.
