The Book of Beliefs Rabbi Saadia Gaon. First Edition. Constantinople, 1562.

Start price: $10,000
|
Est. Price: $15,000 - $20,000

Sefer Ha’emunos V’hadeios, faith and Judaism by Rabbi Saadia Gaon.

Ha’emunos V’hadeios was the first published work to thoroughly elucidate the principles of Jewish belief. It contains all the profound tenets of Jewish philosophy according to the Torah, and all subsequent works of Jewish thought draw from this monumental piece, including the works of the Rambam and the Ramban.

Harav Saadia Gaon of Sura (d. 942) was one of the greatest Rabbis of the Geonim and left an indelible mark upon all subsequent Torah literature. In his era, there was a great weakening in belief following the emergence of new Judao-movements such as the Karaites, and Harav Saadia Gaon rose in fierce protest against them. The Rambam wrote in his Iggeres Teiman that had it not been for Harav Saadia Gaon: "The religion of Hashem would almost have been lost."
