The Rebbe’s Battle for Shabbos

Important letter by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson of Chabad

In the 1950s-1960s traveling to and from Israel was primarily done by ship, which, at times, involved traveling on Shabbos on ships of Jewish (Israeli) owned companies. The Rebbe devoted tremendous energy into trying to put a stop to the chilul Shabbos that was taking place. He also sent letters to individuals requesting them not to travel to Eretz Yisroel in a manner that involves chillul Shabbos.

Brooklyn, New York 1957 Typewritten on thin paper, signed with corrections and additions in the Rebbe’s handwriting. Good condition.
