Rabbi Elchonon Wasserman H"yd painful criticizing  letter about Rabbis of Eretz Yisrael.

Long Autographed  letter by Harav Elchonon  Wasserman to rabbi Dovid Potash on ‘Da’as Torah’ and  the controversy between Agudas Yisrael and the Zealots from Neturey Karta in Eretz Yisrael.  Baranowitz, circa 1935.

Harav Elchonon writes that he believes that many Rabbis aligned themselves with governmental institutions due to “the dire poverty that clouds their thinking, and causes them to overlook the Will of their Creator”.

He writes that this could have been prevented, “Had they tried to better their material situation even slightly, for then they would have been comfortable to remain on the right [rather than shift] to the left. And in this manner the majority of quality would have been on our side."

Harav Elchonon also recommends that, "Before they take action, it would be correct for them to consult with the gaon and tzaddik, author of the Chazon Ish, and hear Daath  Torah’s  from him."

Harav Elchonon Wasserman H"yd (1875-1941), was the Rosh Yeshivah of Yeshivas Ohel Torah in Baranowitz. As one the greatest Roshei Yeshivah and Torah personalities in pre-Holocaust Lithuania, he served as the right hand of the Chofetz Chaim in guarding the foundations of Judaism and was active in Agudas Yisrael. He was known as "Reb Elchonon ” throughout the Torah world. His works, Kovetz He’aros and Kovetz Shiurim are foundational pillars of the Yeshivah world. His essays on HaShkafa form the corner-stone of Torah ideology.

Baranowitz, circa 1935. Official stationary of Yeshivas Ohel Torah. Page size: 28×21 cm. Entirely written and autographed by Reb Elchanan.

Was not printed in Kovetz Iggros U’maamarim. Apparently unpublished.
