Ka Echsof Noam Shabbos
The sefer’s first pages contain the famous Shabbos lyrics ‘Ka echsof’ which was composed by Rabbi Aharon Hagadol of Karlin. This song was sung by Chassidic congregations across Europe and is still sung by many on Friday night until this very day.
The lyrics of the song are rooted in the wisdom of kabbalah, and the composer’s grandson Rabbi Shalom of Koidanov authored a commentary on it called Ateres Shalom [Warsaw, 1895].
This stirring song is constructed in four stanzas, with the first letter of each stanza forming the Name of Hashem. The second letters of each of the four stanzas spelling Aharon, and the third letters spelling neshamah (soul).
