Jews of Singali
The original Jewish settlement in India was founded in the 14th century in Cranganore, which local Jews called Singali. Later the congregation relocated to Cochin, yet their traditions and prayers continued to be called after their original settlement in Singali.
At the time, India was under Dutch sovereignty, and its Jews were thus in frequent contact with the Jewish community in Amsterdam. The manuscript of this book was sent by the philanthropist Yechezkel Rachvi of Cochin to his contemporary Tuvia Boaz of Hague who printed it in Amsterdam.
