Siddur Ha’Ari was compiled by the great kabbalistic sages based on the writings of Harav Chaim Vital, prime disciple of the Arizal. This siddur is arranged according to Harav Chaim Hakohein, a disciple of Rabbi Chaim Vital, and it was one of the first prayerbooks compiled based on Kisvei Ha’Ari.
An abridged version from this text was printed as Siddur Shaarei Rachamim and Shaarei Ratzon (Salonika, 1741), however the printed text includes writings other than those of Harav Chaim Hakohein and omits large parts of the present text.
Harav Yosef Zundel Salant’s Siddur Ha’Ari
Harav Yosef Zundel Salant handwrote the following at the top of the manuscript:
“Order of prayer based on the Secrets of Torah from the fruits of the Tree of Life, intentions compiled by the illustrious servant of G-d Harav Chaim Volozhin, zt”l…”
Harav Yosef Zundel Salant (1786–1866) was the prime disciple of Harav Chaim of Volozhin who taught him many of the lessons that he learned directly from his master the Vilna Gaon. Harav Yosef Zundel Salant thus became known as “Third [Generation] Mouth from the Gr”a.”
Aside from being the siddur used by kabbalists throughout the past centuries, Siddur Ha’Ari is also one of the primary sources of the Arizal’s customs and intentions in mitzvos.
