Harav Yisrael of Chortkov’s personal autographed and stamped copy of sefer Avnei Milu’im on Shulchan Aruch Even Haezer by Hagaon Harav Aryeh Leib Hakohein Heller, author of the Ketzos Hachoshen.
The top of the title page features his full signature,
Yisrael ben Moreinu Harav Dovid Moshe shlit”a, and the stamp of his grandson, Harav Shlomo of Chortkov.
One of the preeminent leaders and Chassidic Rebbes of his era, the
Admor Harav Yisrael of Chortkov (1854-1934) was the son of Harav Dovid Moshe of Chortkov son of Harav Yisrael of Ruzhin. Under Harav Yisrael’s leadership, the Chortkov Chassidus blossomed and became one of the most venerated Chassidic courts in all of Galicia.
In his early youth, Harav Yisrael mastered Shas and Poskim and was regarded as a genius fluent in the works of the Rishonim and Achronim. Contemporary illustrious sages as the Kochav Mi’Yaakov and Maharsham would travel to his Holy Court in Chortkov where they basked in the wisdom of his Torah and Chassidus. Shu”t Beis Shlomo by Harav Shlomo Drimmer, Av Beis Din of Scala, includes a responsa that Harav Yisrael of Chortkov authored at the age of fourteen!
