Megillas Esther on parchment written by a scribe for the Ashkenazic congregation in Padua.
Attached to the Megillah is a printed dedication with the inscription: “A gift sent to my master, meticulously edited to [prevent] any minute error. Written by my hand,
Gavriel son of Meir Triasti, to find favor in the eyes of my brethren in the holy Ashkenazic congregation as described in the Codebook of the Synagogue of Year 1823.”
While the congregation of Padua is not explicitly mentioned in this dedication, Rabbi Gavrial Triasti was renowned as a senior official and philanthropist in Padua.
Parchment size: 33.5 cm. Together with ivory handle: 54 cm. 21 lines per column. Ashkenazic script with nuances of Sephardic script, in the Italian scribal style of that era.
Ornate ivory megillah handle.
The first leaf is sewn on silk, followed by rich embroidered fabric. Includes separate parchment leaf measuring 16×19 cm with blessings before and after the reading of Megillah. The Megillah is preserved in a new fabric-coated box.
