Handwritten & Autographed Letter by Hagaon Harav Aharon Kotler after the Holocaust during his First Visit to Jerusalem, 1946.
“Baruch Hashem, I’ve Arrived Safely in Yerushalayim”

On Wednesday, 22 Teves, 1946, Hagaon Harav Aharon Kotler, Rosh Yeshivas Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, NJ, arrived in Eretz Yisrael. Alighting from the airplane at Lod Airport, his countenance shone with ethereal joy and pleasure, and he recited the brachah “Shehechiyanu” with the Name of Hashem. An honorable delegation of Rabbanim and Torah sages greeted him at the airport, most notably among them Hagaon Harav Eliezer Yehuda Finkel, Rosh Yeshivas Mir. Rav Aharon remained in Eretz Yisrael for approximately two months before returning to his beloved Lakewood Yeshivah.

This letter opens with a greeting to Rabbi Aharon Goodman, secretary of Agudas Yisrael in London and one of the leading activists in Vaad Hatzalah together with Rabbi Zeidel Semiatzky, Rosh Yeshivah of Toras Emes in London and eminent alumnus of Yeshivas Mir, who endeavored tirelessly together to arrange for the legendary rescue of Yeshivas Mir and its relocation to Shanghai. In conclusion, Rav Aharon writes that he shall endeavor to return via London and hopes to complete a project that they began together. He likewise notifies them regarding the delivery of copies of Even Haezel to his father-in-law Hagaon Harav Isser Zalman Meltzer.

Harav Aharon’s son
Hagaon Harav Shneur Kotler adds a single line in the letter’s margin.
