Handwritten, signed letter by Hagaon Eliezer Deitsch, Av Beis Din of Bonyhád and author of Pri Hasadeh, in response to comments by Harav Binyamin Ulman, son of the Yerios Shlomo, regarding the halachic concept of ‘Eid echad ne’eman b’issurim.’
Hagaon Harav Eliezer Deitsch (1850-1916) served as Av Beis Din of Bonyhád and was revered as one of the prominent sages in Hungary. He received letters and questions from across the Jewish world and authored myriad halachic responsa. He was a disciple of Harav Yehudah Assad. In the course of his studies in Ungvar, he lodged in the home of Hagaon Harav Shlomo Ganzfried, author of the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch, whom he assisted in his writings. Harav Eliezer Deitsch’s celebrated works include Shu”t Pri Hasadeh and Tevuas Hasadeh.
The addressee
Harav Binyamin Ulman of Volke was the youngest son of Hagaon Harav Shlomo Zalman Ulman, an esteemed Torah scholar, wealthy philanthropist, and disciple of the Ksav Sofer who published his father’s work, Yerios Shlomo (Warsaw, 1913) with his own comments.
