Renowned as the Yaabetz,
Hagaon Harav Yaakov Emdin (1698-1776) was the son of the Chacham Tzvi and among the greatest Achronim. His work Mor U’Ktziah was universally accepted as a fundamental source on the laws of Orach Chaim and is cited by leading sages, including the Chafetz Chaim in Mishnah Brurah.
Part 1 of the sefer recounts miracles that occurred to the Yaabetz which inspired him to mark certain days of the year as a Yom Tov. Among these miracles, he relates that he fell asleep one night while learning Tur Orach Chaim and was nearly burned by the candle resting on his desk.
